The answer to surgical pain and stress: BYO Music
Following a study among 7,000 patients, researchers at Queen Mary University of London put forward a recommendation: hospitals should encourage surgical patients to listen to music before, during and after their operation. The study findings revealed that patients who incorporated music into their surgical process experienced less pain and were less anxious following procedures. Musical intervention was also found to be beneficial even under general anesthesia. To build on these results, the research team plans to conduct follow up studies at Royal London Hospital later this year.
