College students in the US are using meditation to regain focus

Today’s college students are distracted – more than ever before. Recent studies show that mindfulness training can be used to keep students on track and focused. Universities across the US are looking into the benefits of mindfulness – the state of active, open attention on the present.

According to a study by the University of Miami, students who participated in mindfulness training showed improved attention and less mind wandering compared with students who did not participate. Another study conducted by the University of California Santa Barbara showed that students who received mindfulness training improved performance on reading comprehension and working memory capacity.
