Mental health issues on the rise in organizations
The latest CIPD Absence Management survey raises a red flag concerning mental health in the workplace. 2015 results show a bump in reported mental health problems – depression and anxiety, for example – in 41 percent of organizations. Study leaders associate this issue with the long hours and unhealthy work-life balance that have become commonplace among many employees today. As 2015 marks the sixth consecutive year that levels have exceeded 40 percent, the problem is not only urgent, it is lasting. Experts from Simplyhealth, co-producers of the study, point to the need for effective employee well-being programs and helplines as well as a well-being and health-focused shift in work culture.
