The latest survey conducted by the Sodexo Institute of Quality of Life1 the company’s internal think tank, in March 2015, explores how young future leaders perceive and tackle the topic of Quality of Life. One thousand university students from Brazil, France, India, UK and the US were asked to project themselves as future leaders and rate the importance of Quality of Life in the organizations they would lead.
The large majority of respondents made a clear connection between Quality of Life and overall performance. In fact, 69 percent “totally agree” that improving Quality of Life would have an important impact on the performance of their organization. In addition, these young leaders ranked Quality of Life as the number one driver of performance – higher than the quality of products and services, innovation and technology and even higher than business and financial strategy. When compared with current leaders, who ranked Quality of Life in fifth place, this issue is clearly of rising importance for tomorrow’s leaders.
Another key point of difference is that young future leaders tended to favor the Quality of Life dimensions that directly impact their personal life and environment – such as personal growth and work-life balance. Current leaders on the other hand tended to favor dimensions with a more collective impact such as physical environment and recognition systems.
Both current leaders and students from Sodexo’s Future Leaders Initiative will come together at the Sodexo Quality of Life Conference in New York City from May 5 to 6 to explore and exchange viewpoints on the issue of Quality of Life. During the conference, a crossgenerational session will highlight what young and old can learn from each other, and how bright minds across cultures, countries and generations can create a shared vision for the future.
